Peace Dollar
![]() |
Minted by the United States Mint, the Peace Dollar was created to commemorate the end of World War I and to celebrate America’s emergence as a world power. By the mid-1930s, however, the Great Depression was upon the nation and another World War was looming. In 1935, the U.S. government ceased minting Peace Dollars, and would never again mint a dollar coin from real silver. On the obverse is a radiant profile of Miss Liberty and on the reverse, an American eagle perched on the Rock of Peace. | |
